Space Needs Modeling

Space needs modeling allows us to generate an understanding of space need across various higher education space types, identifying space surpluses and deficits according to various enrollment levels and space planning assumptions. On the fly, we can adjust assumptions around enrollment levels, faculty and staff ratios, development decisions, on campus capacity targets, and use rates to determine overall need. The tool incorporates existing institutional data and projects need according to nationally recognized methodologies. The model is fluid and flexible and can be modified in real time, which has proven useful in both advancing and facilitating decisions. These methodologies are shaped by our architectural practice, which gives us a unique insight into current standards, as well as evolving trends in space use affected by changes in teaching and learning. Program elements and quantities are tested for appropriate fit and use in the context of existing buildings and spaces.
