Tao Zhang Elevated to ASLA Council of Fellows

Sasaki is proud to announce that Principal and landscape architect Tao Zhang has been elevated to the Council of Fellows of the American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA). Fellowship is one of the highest honors bestowed by ASLA, recognizing individuals for exceptional contributions to the profession and to society at large over a sustained period of time.

Tao’s elevation is a testament to his deep and lasting impact on the field of landscape architecture. Trained as both an ecologist and a landscape architect, Tao brings a unique perspective to design—one that marries scientific rigor with creative expression. He consistently roots his work in a nuanced understanding of the socio-ecological systems that shape our environments, producing landscapes that are as functional as they are beautiful.

Elevation to the ASLA Council of Fellows is based on an individual’s work, leadership and management, knowledge and service to society at large. The designation of Fellow is granted to individuals in recognition of their exceptional accomplishments throughout their career.

Throughout his career, Tao has advanced the profession through design excellence, research, and education. He has led and contributed to numerous award-winning projects that reflect Sasaki’s commitment to innovative and sustainable design.

In addition to his practice, Tao has partnered with academic institutions and nonprofit organizations to explore critical issues such as post-occupancy metrics and environmental health. His research has been published in peer-reviewed journals, and he is a frequent speaker at conferences around the world. Tao’s passion for knowledge-sharing extends to the classroom—he has taught at the Rhode Island School of Design and served as a visiting critic at various universities in the US and abroad.

Please join us in congratulating Tao on this well-earned recognition by the ASLA.
