Sasaki’s Research Process Featured in Landscape Journal

Sasaki’s work on The Ellinikon Park is featured on the cover of the new, LAF-led collaborative article, “Practice-Based Research Now: Purpose, Approach, and a Proposition”, out now in the November issue of Landscape Journal.

The article contributes to the dialogue on practice-based research in design through personal statements from the authors, interviews and surveys with 21 design firms, and a proposition and call to action. “Landscape architecture practice needs a new framework for collective knowledge‐building. This takes cooperation and infrastructure.”

This effort grew out of roundtable discussions organized by the Landscape Architecture Foundation, and the article includes a contribution from Sasaki’s Chief Practice Resources Officer Allyson Mendenhall. The article highlights the value of practice-based research in design, which enabled Sasaki’s team to prioritize thermal comfort for the Ellinikon Park in Athens, Greece. The project emphasizes resilience and accessibility by integrating shade, water features, and cooling stations for a more comfortable and inclusive public space.
