Tao Zhang Featured on Modelo

Landscape architect and ecologist Tao Zhang shared his thoughts on design, innovation, and landscape architecture in an interview with Modelo last week. The interview appears as part of Modelo’s “Design Manifestos”—a series dedicated to gaining the perspective of architects and designers from around the world.

Tao describes his winding path to becoming a landscape architect, citing that he was initially attracted to the field as it “requires as much deep understanding of the natural environment as artistic pursuits in expression and perception.” Landscape architecture serves as “an ideal way to combine my science and research background with my creative interests,” says Tao. In the interview, he also shares his design philosophy, thoughts on collaboration, and the role of technology in the industry.

Asked what advice he would give himself at the beginning of his career, Tao offers these inspiring words: “Don’t be defined by other’s perceptions of who you are and what you are capable of. Believe in yourself and carve out a path to grow to who you want to become.”
