Pride at Sasaki: Celebrating All the Colors of Design
Pride Month celebrations brought color, life, and love to cities worldwide these past few weeks. At Sasaki, we celebrated the diversity of our own communities, taking action to celebrate and support our LGBTQIA+ neighbors, friends, and loved ones.
This June, Sasaki offices across the country participated in community-building events, cultural programming, and local outreach efforts that reflect our values of equity and care. From happy hours to parades, here’s a look into how we celebrated:
During the first week of June, Sasaki’s Boston office came together to celebrate with color and creativity. In the week leading up to Boston’s Pride Parade, we started our celebrations with a Tie-Dye Happy Hour, where Sasakians from all departments dyed bandanas and T-shirts featuring rainbow snacks and time to connect with each other.
We ended the week by wearing our new tie-dye gear and marching together in the Boston Pride Parade on Saturday, June 6. Now an annual tradition within the office, we walked the mile-long route proudly holding a banner that read “diversity yields better design,” a mantra we believe in every day of the year.
Over the past few years, the New York studio has developed a meaningful relationship with the Ali Forney Center—a lifeline for homeless and at-risk LGBTQ+ youth that offers 24-hour housing and job readiness programs. For the second year in a row, we created snack bags, shaving kits, and handmade birthday cards to support their cause. The joy of supporting the Ali Forney Center was capped off by colorful treats as we celebrated the diversity of our Sasaki community.
Denver has been celebrating Pride both inside and outside of our newest office space. During the first week of June, we kicked off Pride Month with a tie-dye social, so we could start the celebrations with a new splash of color in our wardrobes. At the end of the month we celebrated with our Pride Happy Hour which was a chance to come together in community, hand out Pride goodie bags, and enjoy food catered by Aguanile, a local, queer-owned, Boricua Social Club.
Our celebrations lined up with Denver PrideFest the last weekend of June, produced by The Center on Colfax, a nonprofit organization that provides year-round programs and services for the LGBTQ+ community completely free-of-charge. As part of PrideFest, Denverites are invited to participate in the Pride 5k and this year, the office sponsored our designers to run in the city’s Pride 5k, which has raised almost $200,000. Our team members were proud to join in the festivities and be a part of the Denver PrideFest cause and community!
After participating in the LA Pride Parade, the Los Angeles studio has been engaging with the local community through volunteer efforts this month. At Sasaki, Pride is more than a moment—it’s a movement toward a more inclusive, compassionate, and creative world. Happy Pride! 🏳️🌈
