Knoll Textiles Chats Sasaki’s New Lobby

The following interview originally appeared as part of Knoll Textiles Designer Spotlight series.

Knoll spoke with Sasaki principal Elizabeth von Goeler about the firm’s recent lobby renovation for their Boston headquarters.

A vibrant slatwall centerpiece using Knoll Textiles’ Ultrasuede® is a nod to Sasaki’s brand colors that represent the firm’s many disciplines.

How would you describe your aesthetic?

Everything I design is created for the specific needs of that project and location, and every project has its unique story and design solution. I take inspiration from many places including different time periods and artists. At Sasaki, we work closely as a team and ideas come from everyone.

Why did you choose Knoll Textiles and Ultrasuede® for this project?

We were looking for a combination of bright and muted colors and the Knoll Textiles Ultrasuede® has an amazing variety in the line. It was just what we needed, and the texture was great, too! You can see where someone ran their fingers across the wall, which, to me, signals that someone was enjoying the space.

How did you decide on the color palette?

The colors were selected from the 24 colors in the Sasaki brand palette which represent the variety of work we perform and the disciplines we represent. As a multidisciplinary design firm, we work at many scales and with many different skills.

What do you hope visitors will take away from this space?

That the design can be joyful and serious all at once. While it might look straightforward, detailing the bench to look simple was very difficult.

What other Knoll Textiles fabrics do you love?

I love Arezzo and applied it to pillows in another lobby. We also have it on some pieces in our office.

I am drawn to textural fabrics like Chiseled and Woodland II. I also love stripes and would love to find a home for Stripe It.
