Los Angeles’ Wilmington Waterfront Promenade Breaks Ground
Port of Los Angeles proudly begins construction on the project, which will provide unprecedented public access to Wilmington's historic waterfront
The groundbreaking for the park was held in October, 2020, and since then construction has moved forward, clearing the site as a first, crucial step.
Construction on the Wilmington Waterfront Promenade is expected to be completed by 2023. The construction contract was awarded to Sully-Miller Contracting Co. of Brea, California.
When complete, the park will be a green oasis within a working industrial port district
Until now, the surrounding community has had limited access to the water’s edge, but that will soon change thanks to the stewardship of the Port of Los Angeles and community input on how to recast the waterfront for new uses
Stone steps will gradually lead down to the water’s edge and a pier will allow visitors to step out over the water
“Our vision for revitalizing Wilmington is becoming reality,” said Los Angeles Harbor Commissioner Lucia Moreno-Linares at the groundbreaking ceremony held in fall, 2020. “The fact that this project remains on schedule during this pandemic is inspiring for all of us who have highly anticipated this transformation.”
