Looking Back/Looking Forward: Celebrating and Adapting the Olmsted Legacy in Washington

This enriching walking tour will showcase three of the most prominent landscapes in the world, all touched by the Olmsted Firm: the U.S. Capitol, the National Mall, and President’s Park. Learn from experts how each landscape is adapting to new social, cultural, and climate impacts while maintaining its integrity.

All Are Welcome: Integrating Equity in Civic Spaces

As essential democratic public spaces and centers of civic engagement, civic landscapes must be welcoming spaces for all to use and enjoy. This session will assist designers in understanding how to integrate equity into the design of civic spaces by exploring strategies in Boston, Philadelphia, and Vancouver.

Unlocking the Carbon Potential of Soils

Soils hold 80% of global terrestrial carbon stocks and are critical for carbon drawdown. The nitty “gritty” details of how we work with soils hold the greatest potential for carbon sequestration of any aspect of the built environment. This session shares best practices for maximizing carbon storage in designed landscapes.

ASLA Biodiversity & Climate Action Plan Input Session

In 2021, ASLA was a signatory to the International Federation of Landscape Architects (IFLA) Climate Action Commitment, which was presented at the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) 26th Conference of the Parties (COP26) in Glasgow, Scotland. This Commitment is supported by over 70,000 landscape architects in 77 countries. The ASLA Climate Action Plan is rooted in three key goals and six key initiatives.

History Erased: Bringing Life Back to a Community Legacy

Lincoln Beach was once a thriving cultural and entertainment destination for the Black community of New Orleans. Abandoned over 60 years ago, it has been taken over by nature, and its history has nearly vanished. Learn how the site will once again become a beacon of culture and vitality.
