Sasaki Appoints Two Practitioners to Associate Principals

Sasaki is thrilled to announce the promotion of Antonio Furukawa and Chris Hardy to Associate Principals, in recognition of their leadership and invaluable contributions to the firm’s cross-disciplinary efforts.

Antonio is a longtime leader at Sasaki who began his career at the firm as an intern 23 years ago. He has steadily built expertise across education, science and technology, commercial, and cultural sectors, and served as a key mentor for colleagues across design teams.

Antonio has spearheaded many of Sasaki’s recent projects in South America, drawing upon and sharing his deep knowledge of the region with design teams. He has taken a leading role in several ongoing and completed projects at the University of Lima, Salud Digna Campus Headquarters, and Universidad Católica Boliviana.

He has also been actively engaged in presenting Sasaki’s work at conferences and other public forums, including Zak World of Façades, Facade Tectonics, the AIA Tennessee Conference on Architecture, and universities across North and South America.

Chris Hardy has been at the forefront of Sasaki’s approach towards centering climate-forward, ecologically intelligent design at projects of all scales. Chris has led the development of key decarbonization research projects, including the creation of Sasaki’s Carbon Conscience tool, and has been active in advancing these efforts across the field through his sustained writing, teaching, and advocacy, including his recent work as a Landscape Architecture Foundation Fellow.

Chris has brought his expertise in carbon-conscious design to several key projects at Sasaki, including the Ellinikon Park, Bonnet Springs Park, and the master plan for 30 Crossing Park.

As Associate Principals, Antonio and Chris will continue to advance complex projects and expand the firm’s portfolio both domestically and internationally. These promotions reflect their instrumental role in furthering Sasaki’s commitment to design excellence and nurturing future generations of designers and planners.
