Pieprz drew on his 30+ years in the urban design field to share perspectives on cost efficiency in resilient design, saying: “Whether regional plans, parks and public spaces or buildings and infrastructure, we design for resilience. In terms of cost, with smart design, resilient design is no more expensive. It is simply better.”

The conversation included an in-depth look at Sasaki’s ongoing work with Lakeview Village in Mississauga, Ontario. Pieprz described the way that economically viable and environmentally friendly measures have been a focus of the planning process as the team incorporates “smart” design technology.
