University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL) College of Education and Human Sciences Building Begins Construction
Demolition of the existing Carolyn Pope Edwards Hall is now complete, setting the stage for the construction of a transformational new learning space designed for educating the next generation of teachers.
The original Carolyn Pope Edwards Hall was built in 1968 to serve campus recreation and wellness needs, and over the years has evolved as a home for a number of programs in the College of Education and Human Sciences.
The new design by Sasaki, in partnership with Sinclair Hille Architects of Lincoln, will deliver a dedicated, new, state-of-the-art, technologically-robust building customized to the unique, evolving needs of students training in the latest pedagogical approaches.
The new building will foster a sense of transparency to the greater UNL campus, welcoming students, faculty and staff and providing spaces for interactive learning, interdisciplinary research, collaboration, and other events. A centrally-located living room space will serve as the energetic hub for faculty and students.

Classrooms are programmed for a variety of class sizes, teaching styles and arrangements, all centered around core values of adaptability and flexible technological integration. Faculty spaces are also designed to facilitate collaboration and transparency between and among departments. Construction is scheduled to be complete in the spring of 2022.
