Greenwood Community Park Master Plan Honored by the 2022 ASLA Louisiana Awards

Sasaki is excited to announce that the Greenwood Community Park Master Plan received an Honor Award in the Analysis & Planning category from the Louisiana Chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects (LCASLA). The annual awards program builds upon the LCASLA’s mission by recognizing forward-thinking designs that advance excellence in the practice of landscape architecture and inform the public of the broad scope of landscape architecture services.

Sasaki’s submission titled, “Confronting Racism and Disinvestment in North Baton Rouge: Greenwood Park Master Plan”, outlines the strategies the design team took to deliver a plan for the 660-acre park and Baton Rouge Zoo that reconciles historic disinvestment in the area and provides a vision for a true neighborhood amenity and regional destination.

The first phase of a multi-year implementation broke ground in December 2020. Phase I will include a signature adventure playground, a new entry building and sequence for the zoo relocated within Greenwood Park, AZA re-accreditation for the zoo, a giraffe feeding, a pygmy hippo exhibit, re-routing of the zoo train, an expanded and upgraded J.S. Clark Golf Course, the restoration of Cypress Bayou, and the creation of the Signature Bayou Promenade.

Congratulations to all of the 2022 LCASLA Award winners! We are honored to have been recognized amongst all the incredible entries.
