Fordham University Student Life Facilities
Bronx, NY

This element of the broader Rose Hill Campus Development at Fordham University focuses on the creation of new student life facilities, updating and greatly expanding those offerings to the Fordham community. In Phase I, the new Campus Center will accommodate an expanded program currently housed in the McGinley Center, including dining, bookstore, ballroom and meeting facilities, lounges, administrative offices and student organizations. Phase 2 will renovate McGinley and the Lombardi Center to create the new Recreation Center, including recreation and varsity lockers, fitness areas and group exercise rooms. Phase 3 will construct a 7,500 seat Event Center accommodating the basketball and volleyball programs and a flexible event venue.

These new facilities, together with the Old Gymnasium, will cluster around a series of outdoor plazas, establishing a strong connection to the landscape that is a defining feature of the Fordham Campus. Through glass and screened facades, this relationship will be extended to the interior public spaces of the buildings, providing views into and out of the buildings, and establishing a constant sense of life and activity on the new plazas. This energy will be further extended into the hearts of the buildings through a series of vertically and horizontally connected spaces, continuing the link to the landscape, and providing opportunities for informal synergistic interaction and adaptable use of space.
