Cedar Rapids River Corridor Redevelopment Plan
| | | | 2008 was crowned “The Year of the River” in Cedar Rapids, Iowa - a title that became more significant following the catastrophic flood in June 2008 that inundated the river-edge neighborhoods and a large part of downtown. Over the four months following the flood, Sasaki worked closely with city representatives, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, stakeholders, and a team of planners, engineers, and designers to develop the framework plan. The public process included a series of open houses where the community could view and provide feedback on alternatives for flood management, housing and transportation. |

Cedar Rapids Riverfront Park Master Plan
| | | | Sasaki led a process to define a vision for the Cedar Rapids Parks and Recreation System, part of a series of planning initiatives following the City's devastating flood of 2008. The master plan proposes unique places ranging from grand gathering spaces to host festivals and events to intimate spaces for the daily enjoyment of the parks. It includes a new destination riverfront to attract residents and visitors to the heart of the City, signature parks that will serve the neighborhoods with high-quality recreational options, and increased connectivity and sustainability for the region. |
|
Central Indianapolis Waterfront Capital City Landing
| | | | Capital City Landing is the first implemented phase of the Indianapolis Waterfront master plan and creates the principal park link between the downtown civic and commercial core and the river. |
|
Central Indianapolis Waterfront Master Plan
| | | | The Central Indianapolis Waterfront Project has transformed the urban reaches of the White River and the historic Central Canal into a unified open space system that connects the urban fabric of the downtown to the natural and cultural resources of the river corridor. |
|
Central Indianapolis Waterfront The River Banks
| | | | As part of the implementation of the Waterfront Master Plan, Sasaki has built park improvements along both the east and west banks of the White River. These riverbank landscapes replace the hard and insensitive flood control levees with "green" engineered sloping lawns and arcades of trees that give full flood protection and also maximize access to, and enjoyment of, the White River for the citizens of Indianapolis. |
|
Central Indianapolis Waterfront The Upper Canal
| | | | Sasaki extended the Central Canal northward by three city blocks and created a northern landscape terminus to this pedestrian recreation corridor. A fountain that incorporates historic canal control gates falls into the canal basin and dominates this water landscape. |
|
Chantilly Master Plan
| | | | The master plan proposes an expansion and reorganization of the race course facilities at this famous hippodrome. Focused on organized and rationalized parking to minimize intrusion into the forest, the physical plan was developed within the context of an overall devlopment strategy for the tourism and recreation attractions of Chantilly, including a new visitor’s center for the area. |
|
Charleston Waterfront Park
| | | | This seven acre park along the Cooper River includes a 1,200 foot promenade, wharf, shade structure with swings and fishing pier, participatory fountains, lawns and seating walls, and intimate gardens under a grove of live oak. Sasaki used state-of-the-art engineering techniques to stabilize the landfill site; restoration of the salt marsh protected the river’s marine ecology. |
|
Cincinnati Riverfront Park
| | | | The goal of Sasaki's master plan is to create a world-class contemporary setting on the riverfront for Cincinnati by reconnecting the heart of the city, Fountain Square, to the Ohio River. The 32 acre central riverfront park is the remaining and largest jewel to be implemented in a series of smaller public parks on the high banks of the downtown portion of the Ohio River. |
|
Cleveland Gateway
| | | | Sasaki’s urban and landscape design for the 28-acre sports district established an open space and street network that integrates the Cleveland Indians baseball stadium and Cleveland Cavaliers basketball arena into the downtown, creating an exciting urban complex. |
