The new East Campus Athletic Village (ECAV) at Rensselaer is a newly developed area of the campus that provides indoor and outdoor facilities for athletic teams, coaches, staff and Rensselaer community. Phase 1 includes an arena, stadium, outdoor fields and a renovated hockey rink organized along Georgian Terrace, an outdoor pedestrian space that can used for game-day activities, graduation, and special events. The new complex is divided into strategically placed buildings enclosing the football field, reducing game-day sounds and light glare to neighborhood areas, while allowing people to filter through the site.
Approaching from the main campus to the south, the arena welcomes students and visitors to the ECAV. The banded masonry gym is wrapped with intersecting metal clad and aluminum curtain wall volumes which provide views, light, and connection to the stadium. The two story lobby houses the student lounge and the Hall of Fame and leads to the gyms, locker rooms, and fitness and sports medicine suites with football field views. The upper level balcony and cafe overlook the Harkness Field and connect to the stadium concourse.
The stadium's aluminum screen on its dark textured masonry plinth provides a compelling image. The stadium plinth houses men's and women's, home and visiting teams, locker room facilities. It provides first level entry points from Georgian Terrace and second level entry points from the football field. At the third level, the horizontal louvers enclose the open-air concourse leading to concessions, public restrooms, grandstand access, the arena and private access to the upper level VIP and press box.
ECAV is on target to receive LEED Gold certification.
