The Shanghai Urban Space Art Season (SUSAS) 2017, a biennial public exhibit deemed as Shanghai’s most relevant architecture, planning, and public art event, will open this October through January 2018. With “thisConnection: Sharing a Future Public Space” as the theme, SUSAS 2017 will focus on practices of connection and disconnection in response to the prominence of digital communication and the resulting metropolitan loneliness caused by lack of human contact in real life.
SUSAS will host various workshops, performances, and exhibitions showcasing design and research projects by design firms and artists. Sasaki was invited to exhibit in the Riverfront Cases exhibition presenting Chicago Riverwalk, Suzhou Creek, and Las Salinas, Chile, alongside other notable design firms, such as BIG, James Corner Field Operations, and West 8.
The main exhibition will take place in an 80,000-ton silo at Mingsheng Port, which is being transformed from an industrial site to a public platform that connects both banks of the Huangpu River. Apart from the main exhibition, Sasaki will also present Xuhui Runway Park project in Dual Radiation: Site Project of Urban Renewal at West Bund, Xuhui, an exhibition showcasing successful projects in Xuhui District which will open later in November.
