In a collaborative effort, Sasaki and The Nature Conservancy as well as the American Planning Association, American Society of Civil Engineers, Association of State Floodplain Manager, National Association of Counties, with support from the Kresge Foundation, created Naturally Resilient Communities Solutions (NRCSolutions). The website is a guide to nature-based solutions that help communities weather the effects of flooding, erosion, and other climate-related events.
NRCSolutions explores the benefits of nature-based solutions, which can include improved water quality, enhanced recreational opportunities, and economic growth, featuring case studies of projects and communities have had success using nature-based solutions. Exploring varied approaches such as wetland restoration, oyster reef construction, and reef dune restoration, NRCSolutions provides a new, comprehensive resource to educate and advocate for the use of nature-based solutions to create resilient, healthy, and vibrant communities.
“The creation of NRCSolutions was truly collaborative on a number of different levels,” says Jason Hellendrung, ASLA, of the project. “We worked with a broad partner team collectively representing county governments, professional engineers, community planners, floodplain managers, and conservationists. Internally, as well, the success of this project was a result of our multi-disciplinary teamwork at Sasaki between Strategies, graphic designers, as well as planners, ecologists, and others.”
