Last week, Sasaki celebrated the Lunar New Year by sharing food, culture, and conversation at an office-wide lunch and Design Dialogue. As the first event supported by Sasaki's new Cultural High Holiday initiative, which encourages the celebration of holidays not officially observed in the United States, Sasaki rang in the Year of the Rooster, recognizing Korean, Vietnamese, Thai, and Chinese cultures.
Sharing a meal and answering trivia questions, Sasakians learned about the various traditions that some of their colleagues participate in. The festivities wrapped with the Boston office wishing a Happy New Year to our colleagues in the Shanghai office via video. Sasaki's Shanghai office held its annual celebration with friends and clients in December and are, as tradition holds, observing the holiday with friends and family this month.
The Lunar New Year lunch was followed by an afternoon dessert break and conversation on pressing urban design issues in Asia, including Sasaki’s involvement in the landscape of contemporary urbanism in China. The conversation was led by social media platform and burgeoning think-tank Garlic Idealab (Garlic). Seven Sasaki panelists discussed topics ranging from ecological restoration to public engagement strategies, in a conversation moderated by former Sasaki intern and founder of Garlic, Zhangkan Zhou.
