Sasaki is pleased to announce that we have been selected by the Port of Los Angeles to continue work on the Wilmington Waterfront Promenade design. Just south of the Sasaki-designed Wilmington Waterfront Park, completed in 2011, this work on the Waterfront Promenade will resume the design phase completed in 2012 and will provide a window to the waterfront for the Wilmington Community.
Upon completion, the park will connect the neighborhood of Wilmington with the Pacific Ocean. Work for both the Wilmington Waterfront Park and Wilmington Waterfront Promenade (formally known as Avalon Waterfront Park) has been heavily informed by input from the surrounding communities. Enabling the community to have a voice in the process has garnered a sense of civic pride and communal sense of ownership for these green spaces.
"As we wrapped up work on the Wilmington Waterfront Promenade in 2012 we remained hopeful that the project would eventually be realized," says Sasaki Principal Zach Chrisco, PE, "so we're thrilled to be selected to carry on this work of connecting the Wilmington community to the water. It's been especially rewarding to see how the community has embraced the Wilmington Waterfront Park and we look to carry that connection through to the Promenade project."
