As designers, we aspire to embrace and celebrate the individual life experiences and uniqueness of all people. The design community is charged with understanding diverse viewpoints as core to what we do, and therefore we have great capacity to affect change within our communities. This year, Sasaki will be marching in the Boston Pride Parade on June 8 alongside our fellow Boston-area designers to start a local network committed to seeking social justice for the LGBTQ+ community.
As an office, Sasaki kicks off our celebration of Pride the week of the march, with a Queer Icons gallery installation, a screening of Paris is Burning, and a celebration to gather materials for the march.
Marching in celebration and solidarity, however, is only one part of the equation. Sasaki is also rallying the Boston design community to fundraise together in support of the Santa Fe Dreamers Project, an organization helping immigrant transgender women seeking asylum from Central America and Mexico find safe havens as they await processing. We are asking our friends and allies to show solidarity in support of an organization making a tremendous impact for a marginalized transgender community in dire need of support and advocacy.
