THE PLAN Awards 2019 Finalists and Winners

This year, Sasaki projects were honored in three separate categories by THE PLAN, an international design magazine, in their annual THE PLAN AWARDS program. Shanghai Hongkou Stadium is the winner in the Sports and Leisure category, Kabul Urban Design Framework received one of two honorable mentions in the Urban Planning category, and Chengdu Panda Reserve was a finalist in the Education category.

“Each year we look forward to learning the results of The PLAN AWARDS, as they represent some of the best design contributions from around the world,” says Sasaki principal Michael Grove. “Sasaki has been honored by the PLAN for the past five years and we are excited that the three projects recognized in 2019 represent the breadth and depth of the firm’s work.”

Watch the video below to learn more about Shanghai Hongkou Stadium, winner of the Sports and Leisure category in this year’s THE PLAN AWARDS.  And read on for more about the awards’ program and each of the honored Sasaki projects.

THE PLAN AWARD program disseminates knowledge and improves the quality of the work done by designers, academics, critics and students in the architecture, design and city planning fields, thereby promoting debate on topical design and planning themes. Completed and future projects are eligible for the AWARD.

“It’s always meaningful to take time to pause and reflect on our hard work and occasional struggles,” says Sasaki principal Tao Zhang, ASLA, PLA, LEED AP ND, SITES AP. “These moments become particularly exhilarating when our design is recognized by our peers and academia through prestigious, international awards like The PLAN AWARDS. Three awards in three categories is a true testament to our collaborative and interdisciplinary practice.”
